How happy is your feline friend?

Months ago we looked at a curious app that helped translate the sounds our cats made. In my home, we found it dubious at best, since my cats kept calling me "Mama." Now there's an app you can use to see how happy your cat is. The app, Tably, analyzes photos taken of your cat to see if they're a content fur baby or not.

Some factors the app analyzes include the position of your cat's ears and head, as well as tension in their face. Even whisker changes are analyzed to give you a profile of how happy your cat might be! I'm thinking about trying it out. Although I'm skeptical, this method seems a bit more scientific than the previous one. Still, I can't help but think about how wrong we could be analyzing the feelings of any being who can't tell us those feelings themselves.

Cat Introduces Kitten To Baby

This adorable TikTok is one to watch!

This cute TikTok is sure to get most people to smile: a cat decided to introduce her kitten to her owner's baby. The cat, a two-year-old ragdoll, places her kitten next to the baby as if to show it off. Her owner playfully asks why and gives the cat a voice, responding that it's so they can play together. The whole thing is adorable and worth a watch.

Cats seem to behave strangely around babies, and even around pregnant women. One of my cats gave me the cold shoulder when I got pregnant and seemed to know before I did, while the other one, who was a bit wild and typically had nothing to do with me, wanted to cuddle me suddenly. Cats are very strange.

The Best Cat Scratchers

There are so many cute cat scratching posts around today that it's hard to not buy them all. My favorite deal on a cat scratcher was when we used our flu shot gift cards from Target on one last year! It was a Halloween house and very cute. I also love the houses that Aldi sells for Halloween and Christmas, although they always sell out so fast.

It's easier to get ahold of products online, like this cute gameboy design. I'm also in love with this cactus, which looks like it would last a while. If you really don't want to find adorable geeky cat scratchers to spend too much money on, whatever you do, do NOT head on over to Etsy. You will fall into a rabbit hole from which there is no escape. Yes, there is a President of the United States podium scratching post for your cat.

A Serval in Bed

What would you do?

Servals are gorgeous creatures. I'd love to see one of these majestic wild cats, but I don't think I'd like waking up to one very much. That's what happened to an Atlanta woman whose husband got out of bed, let the dog out and somehow let a wild cat into their house. She woke up to the cat in bed with her!

Given the circumstances, authorities think the serval was an illegally kept pet that escaped and found a house that might provide it with food and shelter. The woman felt fearful of the wild animal, especially when she considered it going after her dog, but it left her house quickly.

Golden Cat Captured on Video

Check out this picture from Cambodia

The Asiatic golden cat is an endangered species that isn't seen very often, which is why it's so cool that this one was recently seen in Cambodia. This is the first time that one has been seen in Ratanakiri province, but it's also part of an ongoing conservation effort in Virachey National Park, so hopefully it won't be a once-in-a-lifetime event.

Earlier I was reading about various cats being rescued from hoarding situations and feeling so down until I saw this piece. I would love to see many more pieces like this and less of the former. The Most Elaborate Cat Gadgets

Do you get any of these for your cats?

If there's anything I've learned from both toddlers and finicky felines, it's that the expensive gadgets we buy mean much less to them than the packages they come in. Cardboard boxes, pipe cleaners... these are the things that keep my cats happy. In fact, I often find a bunch of pipe cleaners curled up around the house after a cat or two drug them out of a supply closet somewhere!

But some pet owners swear by these cool gadgets that keep their cats happy and entertained. There's an automatic kitty door, feeder and litter cleaner, which I have to say is pretty cool even if it's fancier than human toilets. There is even a refreshing water circulator to keep kitty's agua fresh and food-free.

Ava Pet Food Recall

Sainsbury's and Pets at Home Issue Recall

Sainsbury's and Pets at Home have issued a recall on Ford Hill's Ava pet food that they say is a precaution, but at lease one pet owner believes the food led to her kitten's death. The food may be involved in cats developing a bone marrow illness known as pancytopenia.

Cat owners can return the food to Sainsbury's and Pets at Home for a refund with or without a receipt. A total of 24 types of food are being recalled while the company investigates these claims.

Cat Programming Coming To Netflix

There will be dog stars, too!

No, this isn't more programming FOR cats designed to make them leap at your TV screen, but programming inspired by cats and dogs. Netflix says that after such a hard period in history, focusing on animals will provide some much-needed, light-hearted fun for viewers. That may be very true; I haven't watched much heavy content since Covid began.

So we've got shows like Cat People coming that will introduce us to cats that play instruments or even surf. Who wants to bet that there will be plenty of TikTok videos featured? Another show featuring dogs will also be going into its second season.

What's the silliest cat myth you've heard?

Who ever said all cats hate water? I've had some who love it! What about cats always landing on their feet? That's a dangerous myth to spread around, if you ask me. It might tempt kids to challenge it and really hurt a cat. Cat myths are way too plentiful, if you ask me, and some are downright silly.

We've all seen firemen rescue cats in the movies, but that's not really a part of their job. They can definitely tell you no if you call them for help with a treed cat. How about the fact that cats only purr when they are happy? Cats can purr for a variety of reasons.

Fun Facts About Cats

Did you know any of these?

As someone who has had cats all my life, it always amazes me when I learn more facts about cats. I'll never forget learning that they like to hunt and bring us food because they find us to be helpless, hairless cats! I've also heard various people speak about how our cats would definitely eat us if they were large enough, which makes me cringe. I'm not sure if I buy that one, but maybe it's just because I don't want to consider it!

I had no idea that cats have a genome that is over 95% tiger, which might lend some support to the might-eat-us theory! Did you know that cats don't taste sweetness, or that they are actually near-sighted? Cats can also taste the air, which makes a lot of sense when I think of my own cats' behavior.
