Older Cat Losing Weight: What Could Be The Cause?

Yikes. Our oldest has lost a lot of weight this year--he used to be the heaviest, but he's lost a couple of pounds--but we attributed it to the kittens that we adopted, who make him run around a whole lot more.

It's a tough call - the exercise has certainly done him some good! You should be able to tell the difference between a "skin and bones" cat, and a "fit cat who's lost some weight." If his hip bones are sticking out, or his ribs are very evident when you pet him or pick him up, I would be worried. 

I guess when in doubt I would recommend having a vet give him a look-over, if only for your own peace of mind!
