Our 6 month old cat just got neutered and declawed last week. Now he is going every where but the litter box. Is this normal and how long does it last? Help!!!

Your cat probably just want's revenge. If someone ripped my nails out and chopped off my balls I'd be looking for revenge too. Now that your cat can't destroy the furniture it will resort to other forms of destruction like pooping in your shoes.
I've heard that to be a very common problem after a declaw procedure.
I've never experienced it myself due to a declaw. But have for other reasons, I do cat rescue. I use a cat nip spray on/in the litter box. It seems to be very effective. Did you change the type of cat litter, you might try changing the type you normally use. Sometimes they don't like the feel of the litter under their feet. Or...have you moved the box or started using a liner? Cats are so emotionally affected by the smallest things. I've also tried giving a reward/treat to the cat when they use the litter box. I've even had a kitty that would pretend to use the box because she wanted the treat. Hope some of this is helpful.
you don't say what you are using in the litter box for him. my vet sold me a product called eco fresh, which is made from newspapers, there is also one called kitty soft you can get from wal-mart. both are very good products. good luck, taz
Hi,i know you must be feeling totally helplessand out of solutions, but fret not my friend for if you go to this terrific site ALL your questions willbe answered!www.catsinternational.org Catty!
Try shredded paper in the box. I have been told, declawing makes their paws and knuckles very tender. Litter of any kind must be very soft and not aggitate their paws. (even up to 2 years later)
I heard that after having cats declawed they can stop using their litter boxes of go elsewhere. Hopefully, as her paws heal she'll start using it again, but it's true that their paws are very tender after such a procedure. The shredded paper is a good option in conjunction with the catnip could be a temporary option.
