We had cats growing up and I loved them. I would like to get another now that I am older, however I am worried about what it will do to our furniture, etc. Do all cats scratch up things and do they all shed alot?

All cats are different, but they are smart enough to be trained on how to behave. My mom did a few things with the kittens in our house. She would do wacky things like: 1. put aluminum foil over the furniture (cats don't like to jump on that or hear the sound it makes) 2. take the cusions off the couches that she didn't want the cats on 3. use a spray bottle with water to give the cat a quick squirt when they did something naughty. One thing I noticed from all of this was that the cats are smart enough to know when you are gone...and sometimes they will do what they please when you are.

If you are asking those questions you had better ask
yourself if you really want a cat! If you did you wouldn't care how much fur it shed! It takes time and patience to teach a cat to use the scratching post, but it can be done. Do not get one unless you want to committ to giving it a "loving permanent home" for the rest of its life. There are far too many who end up at the pound or thrownaway!! It is also important to
get it spayed or neutered!!!! Are you ready to take on the veterinary expenses? All this should be thought about and decided upon BEFORE you get a cat or any pet!
