It will take time for him to get used to his new surroundings. You need to just ignore him and not to pester him. He is afraid and is not adjusted. Do leave him plenty of food and water and a quite area to place his litter box also. Somewhere where he can get to it easily and out of the way of any commotion. Once he gets used to you and his surroundings, he will come around. Trust me. I have had many cats. You musn't be too overwhelming on him. Play a little with him each day when he has adjusted. This way he will learn to love and trust you. Imagine yourself in his situation then you will understand. Hope it works out!

You're getting good advice. Patience is key. Also, cats like affection on their terms. Try sitting on the floor and offering some canned food or other tasty treat. Don't bother him, just be there. Let him decide when to approach you. It may take a long time, but he'll come around.

he doesn't hate you, he just doesn't know you. His past before you could be causing his behavior. persistance, understanding, patience, and love will win him over. put the two of you in a fairly small confined area. put his food with you, maybe toys, and make non threatening gestures to him. Speak to him in a soft loving (it's gonna be ok) tone. don't be afraid of him hissing at you, or clawing at you, be persistant so that he understands you want to love him. just keep it quiet, calm and not hectic with sharp fast movements. Cats read our emotions far better than our words. project the emotion you want him to have for you onto him. Don't just let him be, bug him till he comes around. I hope that when he does you'll have the best cat in the world.

good luck, shanna allen

It took my abby about 3 weeks to adjust to her new home. She would hide when I was there, coming out when I went to work. When I was gone, she would come out, eat and use the litter box. You just have to be patient. This breed is highly intelligent...and sensitive.

Iknow that I have come into your situation kind of after the fact. If the cat is still within your care just try to be patient. After years of working with rescue cats the most valued resource is patience.Cats don't hate people. They become disoriented in unfamiliar surroundings. If this cat is not truly feral food, quiet and love will win it over If you have young children just keep them in the background for a little while. I am sure that with a quiet gentle atmosphere this kit will come around.
