Besides keeping their claws trimmed, try putting 2 sided sticky tape over the offending part of the furniture they keep trying to claw. Cats don't like sticky stuff, and there's some 2 wide tape out there that will work fine. Cats have an aversion to the 'tape monster'.

Try using a spray bottle. The cats aren't hurt, and they get the message. After a few times, they should get the hint.

the fool proof way to keep kitty fron scratching
funiture is to put small balloons taped to funiture
when kitty pops a balloon, problem solved, never
declaw a cat, never, no way.

i really dont know the answer to that, i always cut my cat nails with a regular nail clipper, i think u should just keep that cat on a leash when u let him or her out in the living room, i keep my cat's nails short, thats the best thing u can do and keep him away from the furniture, like i said, keep him on a leash

not all cats are that bad if you train them young. our cat had a tendency to claw our rug but now when we say no it stops immediately, and we only have to say it once. i think it is just instinct. the best method is to get a scratching post and when it tries to claw on anything say no and bring it over to the scratching post. Before long it will be trained just as it is trained to use a litter box. you can find them in any pet store usually, and i have alwys heard that is the best method other than declawing. declawing is very painful to the cat and is dangerous if your cat ever wanders outside because it is defenseless against any other animals when declawed. hope any of this is helpful. greta :)

one way to keep your cat from clawing your furniture is to bye toys for your cat and block of the part of the house that she likes to tear up.

everytime the cat starts scratching on your furniture just spray her with some water, and she should soon learn.

Hi find that if you spray them with water when you catch them clawing the furniture, or you bite there tails. Or if that doesn't work, get a big dog and make it lay on the furniture and it will scare the crap out of the cat.
